…victims of sexual assault are more likely to have been assaulted by a non-sex offender, than a sex offender.

For example, based on a study by the U.S. Department of Justice, where the perpetrator of a sexual assault is an ex-felon, the perpetrator was six times more likely to be someone who had never been convicted of a sex offense, than of someone who had a prior sex offense conviction. Non-sexual violent offenders (those convicted of simple or aggravated assault) are the most likely perpetrators of a future sex offense.
